In the spring you will find veggie starts and greens, summertime brings tomatoes, huckleberries, cherries, peaches, melons and corn, and fall's bounty includes squash & pumpkins, apples and garlic. Farmers Market Stand

Serving the community for more than a half a century

Missoula Farmers' Market celebrates 54 years!

The Missoula Farmers' Market was established as a Montana non-profit corporation on June 7, 1972 by Missoula City Ordinance 1485. The first Market was held on July 21, 1972. Mavis McKelvey and Chinwon Reinhardt were instrumental in the founding of the Market, which was granted space on East Railroad Street west of Pattee Street, which is where the Market still operates.

The original farmers market was on the north end of Higgins in a part of town that was largely forgotten. The market was created as an outlet for local farmers and gardeners to sell their produce. Over time, its popularity grew, and improvements of the space were made. The city doubled the market space by moving the locomotive, created the central plaza and added lighting and brickwork for ambience. The success of the Missoula Farmers’ Market sparked the creation of the People’s Market and the Clark Fork River Market.
